From seeing the fundamental and tangible development occurring in Bangladesh today, the RPCV created this “by the people for the people” organization. At every level of this company there is participation of the recipients as well as training and development of the local staff. This is not a multinational charity that puts foreigners in a country to do a job. BELIEVE was established as an equal partner to the two NGOs started by locals who know and understand the problems and the people better than anyone. Why reinvent the wheel when there are already great projects and people working to solve the troubling problems that developing countries face? We can increase the efficiency of development by supporting and nurturing successful projects and local leaders in communities. We recognize the importance of not only designing successful programs but also having competent and committed staff to implement the programs in a dynamic and unstable environment like Bangladesh.
BELIEVE listens to every individual from battered women to children living on the streets of Bangladesh. Using a holistic approach, BELIEVE and its partners bring resources to these people who want to change their lives. This is a sort of “Do-it-yourself” development. We do not offer education and forget to nourish the student, neither do we give the battered women money and ignore the risk of having it taken by the husbands. We pride ourselves on the practical and strategic ways we approach problems in the local community in Bangladesh.
